Our mission is to help refugees and other newcomers with humanitarian protections—legally in Minnesota—find and keep stable housing.

Everyone needs a place to call home — a place where families and individuals can feel safe and secure, where kids have access to schools and where parents can feel anchored while applying for jobs and services. Even though granted the legal right to live and work in the US, refugees often face challenges in finding housing due to insufficient credit or rental history. We work with clients and property owners to overcome those barriers.

What We Do

Who do we help?

Refugees and other newcomers with humanitarian protections granted by the US government. People with refugee status have had to leave their home countries because of well-founded fears of persecution based on race, religion, ethnicity, membership in a social group, or political opinion. They are unable to return to their home countries for fear of further persecution. Refugees and other newcomers who resettle in the United States through the official humanitarian programs have been vetted by multiple government agencies. They are authorized to work and live in the US.

Who is eligible for our services?

Our current eligibility requirements are based on the guidelines of the Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR) as well as other considerations. Please connect with us if you have questions about eligibility. If you are a caseworker looking for housing assistance for your client, please connect with us by filling out the contact form.

What is the evaluation process?

We carefully evaluate each family or individual for eligibility before approving assistance. Our criteria take into account income, family size, barriers to self-sufficiency and availability of other resources.

How long does it take? How long can we help for?

We are a volunteer-led, privately-funded project; currently we do not receive any government assistance. Our ability to provide rent support depends on the availability of funds and is not guaranteed. Our ability to help with housing searches will depend on the client’s individual circumstances. If you are requesting help with rent payment, please submit your application no later than the 15th of the month preceding the month the rent is due.

How are we funded?

Our funding at this time comes through churches, mosques, Rotary Clubs and individuals like you. To donate, click here.
